Peter Broekhuizen
Peter Broekhuizen studied jazz at the Conservatory Rotterdam (NL), graduated in 1990. His roots are in soul-jazz/funk: o.a. SUE CHALONER’s SOULTRAIN (UK, support act Ray Charles) and for years in CANDY DULFER’s FUNKY STUFF (Japan/Asia/USA/Europe, several concerts with Van Morisson & Mavis Staples). Hij played world music in THE CUBOP CITY BIGBAND and RUMBATÁ (o.a. tour Colombia) and playes with the talented jazz singer KIM HOORWEG. Broekhuizen wrote the charts for the van den Ende musical ‘Saturday Night Fever’. With his own band THE AURATONES he released 4 CD’s with o.a. GERARD PRECENSER (UK) and THIJS van LEER (Focus) as guests.
With ARTVARK Saxophone Quartet he played all the big jazz stages in Holland like the Bimhuis, Lantaren Venster and at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Artvark toured in Ireland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Egypt, Thailand and Turkey. For special projects they hooked up with legendary jazz drummer Peter Erskine (USA), with jazz quartet New Niks and with the classical soprano Claron McFadden (USA). With Claron Artvark plays “Sly Meets Callas”, chamber music on the edge of classical and jazz.
