PHIL MARTIN – DRUMMER, PRODUCER, REMIXER, SOUND ENGINEER
Imagine a simple rural living situation and the lively background of a large family, where life is undividedly connected with music and dance.
It’s a family of good musicians and dancers where Phil Martin was raised up. He was strongly influenced by his father, a reputable bass player, who introduced him to all kinds of music like jazz, soul and funk.
Phil Martin not only listened to music but also started playing the guitar and drums as a child. When he got a job in a recording studio, he got involved with synths and samplers. Here he started to create his own music with the use of his father’s old collection of rare funk, jazz and afro beat records. He also started dj’ing.
Living in his studio, spending to much time behind his mixing desk and producing records is his big passion. That’s why he started his own record label Social Beats together with Welmer Keesmaat. First they started releasing some 12″‘s in 2003. Then they released full albums of groups like The Jazzinvaders, The Soul Snatchers, The Houdini’s, Tim Wood, Jaffa and Solo Moderna. Not only is he producing and performing on most records, Phil is also asked frequently to do remixes for lots of different artist like Idea6, Ben Human, Praful, Monsieur Dubois, Diesler, Sleepwalker and many, many more.
